Cthulhu waits dreaming." In between snores, as he tosses and turns, his
ears (if he has them) must be burning. That's because we'll be discussing
Cthulhu a good bit in this issue. Four articles analyze "The Call of
Cthulhu" from various angles, and one runs
down the other Lovecraft tales in which Cthulhu appears. We even examine the
debate over how the name itself is pronounced.
Crypt of Cthulhu is particularly
pleased to offer two ethnographic studies by Richard L. Tierney, in which he
collects vestiges of Cthulhu cult-worship in far-flung corners of our
hemisphere. Who says this stuff is all fiction?
Cthulhu is not the only amphibian
monster in HPL, though he is surely the paramount one. There are others,
including the Deep Ones of Innsmouth, Father
Dagon, and the mysterious Saint Toad. We'll be
devoting some attention to these fearsome fellows, too.
Finally, in an effort to pander
shamelessly to the tastes of any and all readers, we present "A
